AVIVE Water Treatment Solution update for Killaloe
What if we didn't need to add chlorine to water to make it safe? What if we could have safe water that smelled better, tasted better and didn't hurt the environment every time we flushed?
A pilot-scale study was conducted in the town of Killaloe, Ontario to evaluate the performance of the AVIVE Water Treatment Solution. The AVIVE process is an alternative to chlorine-based potable water disinfection methods and uses stablized hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is natural to the enviornment and breaks down into water and oxygen. The project met each of the objectives of the study thereby representing a breakthrough application with widespread potential to enhance water treatment on a global scale. Additionally as a result of implementing the new technology, the Killaloe Water Treatment Plant was able to reduce the amount of flushing and backwash previously necessary for ongoing maintenance of the water distribution system. This brought about a 42% reduction in total water used by Killaloe in 2013 vs. 2012.
