Sump Pumps in Quinte West, Brighton and Colborne
Sump pumps have been the topic of conversation with many of our customers over the past few days. The ice storm of last week left many home owners without power for 6 hours to 48 hours. Power outages are inconvenient for most people but if you rely on a sump pump to keep your basement dry then power outages are serious business. So now many home owners are dealing with their insurance company to have their basements gutted and restored to pre ice storm condition. This is when many people realize that they have limited coverage!
So what can a home owner do to protect their investment in their home? As mentioned in an earlier article, if you live in the city and your water is provided by municiple water then you can install a water driven back up sump pump. These pumps are powered by municiple water and do not require electricity to operate. If you live in the country then a battery back up sump pump is an option. These sump pumps operate on marine batteries but will only pump as long the the battery has a charge. Generators are another option for those who live in the country. Home owners with a generator can provide power to their fridge, freezer and sump pump. I even heard of people being able to watch their favorite tv show during a power outage. Bet their neighbors were impressed!
